Trekking with Mules in the High Central Atlas

To the north of the Central High Atlas, a multitude of summits rises, the height of which is around 4000 m: the M'Goun (4071 m), the djebel Rhat (3800 m). The magnificent valleys of the Berbers of Ait Bougmez, Ait Boulli, Tassaoute and Aarous stand at the foot of these mountains. Their inhabitants "Amazighen" have built villages among the most beautiful of the Atlas ..

The discovery of one of the most beautiful regions of Morocco - Traditional Berber villages - The ascent of Mount Mgoun 4068m - the beautiful gorges of the Tassaoute and Arous, the Ait Bougmez valley - framed by a Berber team.

Day 1 : Marrakech / Demnate / Ait Bougmez / Tafenfente

After breakfast, meet your guide and transfer by minibus to the valley of Ait Boulli, via the town of Demnate and the pass of Abadou. Meet our team muleteer and cook to the village of Tamzrite 1750m and then start the hike. Climb to the plateau of Tafenfente which offers beautiful panoramic view over the whole valley of Bougmez, bivouac on the plateau 2400m.2H30 walk.5h of road.

Day 2 : Rougoult / Azib n Tfera

After crossing a small forest of green oak we join the village of Ifri n'Ait Kherfella by a path on the slope of Djebel of Tifdaniwine. We have lunch at the village of Rougoulte. In the afternoon we climb the wadi Daghour to reach our bivouac towards the azibs of Aguerame will be at 2300m.7H30 of walk.

Day 3 : Col Rougoult / Tassaoute / Idrmamne

We cross the Col de Rougoulte 2860m, ​​followed by a long descent to discover the beautiful villages of the Haut Tassaoute: ocher villages in pisé. We then lunch under walnut trees. In the afternoon we pass through the village of la Tassaoute before reaching the exit of the Wandras gorges and climb to join our bivouac in Idermamne at 2500m, 6 h 30 walking.

Day 4 : Idmamne / Col Assderm / Tarkdite

Crossing the Assderme pass 3150m and crossing plateau Wandras then downhill and lunch at the entrance of the gorges of Tassaoute. In the afternoon we walk an hour to join our bivouac on the plateau of Tarkdite 2850m.

Day 5 : Summit of Mgoun 4068 / Azib Azabine

Departure very early in the morning for the optional ascent of Mount Mgoun to 4 068 m. A very nice climb, sometimes a bit hard on gravel, and then a nice walk of 2 hours on a ridge that goes beyond 3900m to the summit (5h walk) and then downhill on the pass of Oumsoud, to join the Bivouac at the plateau of Azabine (2,700 m). 8 h with ascent, 4 h without ascent

Day 6 : Col Ait Boulli / The valley of Aarous

By the pass of tizi n'Ait Boulli 2850, we join the valley of Arous that we go along and then join the valley of Ait Bougmez. 6 hours of walking.

Day 7 : Ait Bougmez

Hike in this beautiful happy valley of Ait Bougmez, climb to the collective attic of Sidi moussa with its beautiful view over the whole valley. Dinner and night in a cozy cottage in the valley at 1800m. 5 hours walk.

Day 8 : Azilal / Ouzoud waterfalls / Marrakech

After breakfast transfer to Azilal, picnic lunch near the waterfalls of Ouzoud and departure to Marrakech.

Important :

This itinerary is given as an indication, for various reasons due to inclement weather or others, your guide may have to make changes on the program, if necessary, for the smooth running of your trip.

In a tent in private bivouac and a night in a cottage.

Formalities :

A passport valid for 3 months from the day of entry into Morocco is required (essential), for nationals of the European Community (no visa).

For minors, they must have their own passport.

If the child is traveling with someone other than his or her parents :

An authorization or a legalized letter to the mayor indicating that their parents allow their child to go on a trip with the person accompanying him / her.

Health :

It is about being in good physical condition. During the hike, it is necessary to be self-sufficient and take with you a medicine kit (dressings, aspirin, anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, anti-diarrhea, total screen, lip balm, disinfectant tablets, eye drops).

Water and drinks :

For this trek, the supply of water is made in sources, its treatment is recommended (type Micropur). Tea is served at noon (except for the stages where the mules do not follow the same route as the group) and at the arrival of stage. In the evening a tea is offered after the meal.

Portage :

Each participant walks on foot with a light backpack, containing only the personal belongings necessary for the day (gourd, camera, pharmacy kit ...). The remainder of the equipment and equipment of the bivouac, as well as the supplies, are transported by the mules.

Framing :

 A professional  guide certified by the Mountain Trades Training Center (CFAMM) will accompany you for all our treks.              You will be assisted by a team of cook muleteers.

You will be notified of the schedule and venue with your guide.

Money and tips :

Currency is the Dirham. 1 € = 10.60 Dh.

Allow cash to pay for your drinks and meals if not included in the estimate, and for tips for the team accompanying you during your hike / trip.

Accommodation :

To better enjoy the outdoors and nature, we opted for the formula "Bivouac" as accommodation. The places of our bivouacs are chosen according to several criteria: the beauty of the site, the calm, the safety, the proximity of a water point .... We provide two-seater tents with foam mattress with sleeping cover, mess tents for the evening meal, floor mats, cutlery and kitchen items. A night in the cottage at the end of the hike is provided in this circuit.

Clothing and small items :

It is necessary to wear good quality shoes "hiking in the mountains". It is hot during the day but the nights can be cool. It is therefore advisable to provide outfits accordingly: Anorak - polar - jogging - t-shirts - bermudas - hat or chèque, and sunglasses, gloves and hat will be welcome especially in the evening and early morning.

Headlamp, spare bulbs and batteries, lighter to burn litter, sunscreen for skin and lips, toiletries, toilet paper, wipes.

Meals :

During this trek they are prepared by a cook. Made with fresh products, they are mainly composed of salads cooked in midday and local dishes in the evening (couscous, tagine ...). A full breakfast is served outdoors or in tents before starting the day. During the bivouacs and for more comfort, meals are served every night under the mess tent. Dry fruits (dates, dried figs, peanuts & pralines) are offered to the participants during the hike.

Materials to be provided :

Cloisonne sleeping bag, normal use 0 to -5 ° C - Hiking sticks especially for mountain descents - tennis or sandal with good soles - A rain cape.

Travel and Transportation :

Transfers are carried out in taxi, in group-reserved minibuses, or private 4x4. For your comfort and safety all vehicles have a tourist transport approval.

Always ask for permission before photographing a person.

It is forbidden to photograph or film anything that is military.

Digital cameras: Have enough memory and batteries.
